Sporting Kansas City-Revolution Preview
While the Jermaine Jones era is off to a positive start for the New England Revolution, Sporting Kansas City is experiencing one of its most puzzling defensive stretches in over a decade. After Friday's 3-1 home loss to Houston, Sporting (12-8-6) has conceded six goals in two games after going 40 consecutive league matches without surrendering three goals.
Toronto FC-Union Preview
With Toronto FC's front office working to help the franchise secure its first playoff appearance, it's been a news-filled week for the slumping club ahead of its Eastern Conference matchup with the Philadelphia Union. Following manager Ryan Nelsen's dismissal, Greg Vanney will make his debut on the bench Wednesday night as Toronto tries to snap Philadelphia's home unbeaten streak with its first-ever win at PPL Park. The club started out 6-4-1, but injuries to star Jermain Defoe and key defenders have led to a slump. Nelsen guided the club to a combined 18-28-18 record in MLS play and the Amway Canadian Championship in his two seasons.
Sounders-Chivas USA Preview
The Seattle Sounders lead the race for the Supporters' Shield and have their sights set on capturing the club's first MLS Cup, but star Clint Dempsey knows they can't rest on their success as they head down the stretch. Seattle seeks a third straight victory overall and an eighth consecutive win over host Chivas USA, which has been blanked in six straight matches and will be missing its leading scorer. The Sounders (15-7-3) hold a two-point edge on Los Angeles atop the Western Conference, with East-leading D.C. also two points back in the Supporters' Shield chase. He's two goals from matching the franchise record set by Fredy Montero and Eddie Johnson in 2012.
